Scanner: Hewlett Packard Scanjet 5590c

Summary: : The Hewlett Packard Scanjet 5590c is a flatbed scanner with a 50 page ADF, which has the capability of performing duplex scanning with the use of the ADF to flip the pages. This scanner works with both the Kurzweil 1000 & 3000 - version 8 and above. To optimize your scanner experience, go into the “Diags” folder, which is under Program Files -> Kurzweil Educational Systems folder and run the program “ScanConf”, then change Native Scan to “ON”.

With Kurzweil 1000, if you scan in Duplex mode and then switching to flatbed scanning you must exit the program first, and then start Kurzweil again to scan in flatbed mode.

This scanner will have a scan time for flatbed scanning, of about 20 seconds per page (Black/White) and about 35 seconds per page (Color). The scan time with Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is about 25 seconds per page (Black/White) and about 45 seconds per page (Color).

Caution/Warnings:

• First time using this scanner a “Configure Device Settings” window dialog appears – just select “OK”
• Need to use the HP Commercial Scanjet 5590 TWAIN for Brightness to work
• Will not work with Kurzweil 3000 for Mac

Comments/Notes:

• Scanner bar take 5 seconds to get from home position to the ADF scanner bar position
  - Only needs to install the HP Commercial Scanjet 5590 TWAIN
  - Able to control the Brightness or Threshold settings with the HP Commercial Scanjet 5590 TWAIN driver
  - Diags folder “ScanConf” change “Native Scan” to “ON”
• Scanner warm-up or initiation time on first scan is about 30 seconds
