Kurzweil 3000 Version 7 Patches and Updates
Patch 7-4 for Kurzweil 3000 - Version 7 February 10, 2004
A patch for Kurzweil 3000 for Windows Version 7 is now available (Patch 7-4). This patch is intended for Kurzweil 3000 Versions 7.03 through 7.05. After it is installed, the Kurzweil 3000 Version will be updated to 7.07. Patch 7-4 includes everything that was in Patch 7-1 and Patch 7-2.
If you have Internet access, you can retrieve and install this update using the
Online Update mechanism in Kurzweil 3000. Just do the following:
- From within Kurzweil 3000 Version 7, select the Update... menu item from the Online menu on the main menu bar. If it is grayed out, you may need to log in with higher privileges (e.g. as an Administrator).
- The Online status dialog will indicate that a search is in progress. When it completes, you should select "Kurzweil 3000 7-4" for download and then "OK". (If you have previously installed patch 7-2, then you will see Patch 7-5 instead of Patch 7-4. Patch 7-5 is a smaller version that will download faster.)
- When the download completes, you will see a message indicating that the update has been successfully downloaded and that you should exit from Kurzweil 3000 to install it.
- When you exit from Kurzweil 3000, the update will automatically be installed. The next time you run Kurzweil 3000, the version number will be 7.07 (You can check the version number by going to Help on the main menu bar and selecting About Kurzweil 3000).
If you have more than one computer running Kurzweil 3000, and if it is more convenient for you to download the update on only one computer, you can copy the update executable to your other machines and manually run that program. After you have downloaded and installed the update, you can find its executable in the "Patches\Completed Patches" folder under your Kurzweil 3000 folder in the Program Files folder. The name of the executable is K3000patch7-4.exe. Alternately, you can use this link to download it - Download Patch 7-4 for Kurzweil 3000 - Version 7 (5.52 MB)
Download Instructions:

- You may need to log into your computer as Administrator or otherwise assure that you have sufficient permission to update the program files.
- Make sure that neither Kurzweil 3000 nor Kurzweil 1000 are running.

Release Notes
What follows are brief release notes for this update. Once you have installed the update, you can find another copy of Release Notes in your Patches folder. The file name is patch7-4.txt.
The following were added or fixed in Patch 7-4:
- Version 8 or Macintosh Version 2 color documents would open as blank pages in Version 7.
- Spelling corrections in image document were missing from text extracted immediately after correction.
- Highlighting was sometimes wrong at end of image text.
- Sometimes can't highlight last word before sticky note.
- Highlighting incorrect with mult-line notes in document margin.
- End-of-line hyphens removed incorrectly from numbers.
The following were fixed in Patch 7-2 and are also fixed in Patch 7-4:
- Additional sites, including Accessible Book Collection and Italian
and Braille sources, were added to the Online Search for Books.
- If a Version 6 or earlier image document with mixed B&W and color pages
was converted to Version 7, the contents were sometimes out of order.
- In some cases, using the KESI Virtual Printer from Microsoft Word would cause
hangs on XP/NT/Win2000 operating systems.
- The reading language associated with the selected speaker was not always preserved on exit.
- In some cases, color highlighting on a text file failed to match with the text when printed or displayed.
- In rare instances, the Edit Underlying Text feature would crash.
- Certain temporary files were never deleted as intended.
- Turning on Two Page Mode and opening multi-page TIFF files would work unreliably. Two Page Mode is now reset in that case.
- The Up/Down/Left/Right arrow keys did not work properly when using the Note Options dialog.
- In some cases when reading an image document, reading would stop at the bottom of the second page.
- When using KESI Virtual Printer from Notepad an error message would occur about the TIFF file already existing.
- Text in notes on color images would not always read in the correct order.
- Scanning in Two Page Mode would sometimes copy the image of the
left page to the right page, keeping the OCR results from the right page.
- If colored highlighting was added to an image using keyboard
operations it would get cleared at the next keystroke.
- Reading after extracting highlights would sometimes read the wrong
text.
- Some Hewlett Packard printers fail to print images properly. Workarounds are now available for this for certain printer models. Call Kurzweil Technical Support for more information.
- Multiple Voice Notes did not read consistently when on different pages
or after deleting some of them.
- Users could not start reading from the very beginning of secondary
text.
- Going directly to next page in Zone Editor did not work consistently.
- Problem with Adobe Reader 6.0.
- Problems saving .txt file as .doc
- Problem with footnote in text document reading incorrectly.
The following were fixed in Patch 7-1 and are also fixed in Patch 7-4:
- In some instances, when a .kes file of a color document, created by Kurzweil
3000 Version 6 or earlier, was opened, the color was omitted and the file
appeared in black and white. All Color sample documents that were affected by this were updated.
- V6 to V7 color conversion caused text or sticky notes to sometimes be
positioned outside the normal viewing area.
- A new option to disable the color file conversion question was added.
(ColorConvert = Yes/No in registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KESI\Kurzweil 3000\User. This will provide an "automatic answer" to the "Do you want to convert from Version 6 to Version 7..." question).
- Autorotate in Two Page Mode gave a message about the wrong DPI.
- If the speaker language & speaker were changed in the Options dialog, then Apply and then
Cancel, changes were not saved.
- "Note Options" was added to sticky/text note Right Mouse Button menu.
- Problems occurred when sticky or text note(s) were added to an empty image doc.
- It was possible to add footnotes, voice notes or bookmarks to an empty image
page.
- Regular notes on previous pages affected footnote number counting.
- Could not use the zone editor with Macintosh documents.
- When user highlighting on an image was printed on a PostScript
printer, the underlying text was obscured.
