To use Kurzweil 1000 effectively, you need a computer and scanner that meet or exceed the system requirements listed below.

| Hard Disk Space: | 4 GB of free space |
| Operating System: | Windows 11, 10 |
| Additional Requirements: | Keyboard Speakers or headset DVD-ROM drive, full-size keyboard, and/or 17-button keypad Microphone (optional) If scanning: TWAIN-compatible scanner (see Supported Scanners) Internet connection required for some features (Online Activation, Online Book Search, etc.) |
Kurzweil 1000 does not currently support thin-client based environments as it was not designed for some of the special requirements of these systems.
