Adding Custom How To Videos to Kurzweil 3000 for Windows

CAVEAT: You can add your own video clips to the Kurzweil 3000 for Windows Help How To Videos menu, however, please be aware that Kurzweil Educational Systems does not provide technical support for those files.

Adding Video Clips to Kurzweil 3000 Help How To Videos

Step I: Create Your Video Clips

We used Camtasia for its ease of use, but there are other programs you can use to create your video clips. You will need to produce the files in Windows Media (WMV) AND html formats. For tips on using Camtasia, see Camtasia Procedures and Settings on page 4 in this document.

Step II: Copy the Kurzweil 3000 Video Clip Set

It is very important that you make a backup copy of the folder containing the set of video clips that came with the program in case you inadvertently change or delete any of the original files. You can find the How To folder in the following directory: Local Disk\Program Files\Kurzweil Educational Systems\Kurzweil 3000\Help\

Step III: Add the Video Clips to the Kurzweil 3000 Help How To Videos Menu

  1. Place the files in the How To folder in the following directory: Local Disk\Program Files\Kurzweil Educational Systems\Kurzweil 3000\Help\
  2. Windows Explorer window showing HowTo folder.

  3. Add the file to the navigation/Table of Contents page by editing the HowTo.html file. From the How To folder, find the file named, HowTo.html, and open it.
  4. Internet Explorer window showing HowTo.html

  5. From the View menu, select Source.
  6. Notepad window showing contents of HowTo.html.

  7.  Copy an existing line and paste it in the desired list location.
  8. Change the name of the html file (in the quotation marks) to match the name of the actual html file that you placed in the How To folder in #1.
  9. Type the name of the link as you want users to see it. Typically, this is the same name as the html file, only without the “.html” extension.
  10. Exit and Save the source file. The html file view returns.
  11. In the html file, click Refresh to see your change.
  12. Open Kurzweil 3000. Your change should be reflected in the How To Videos menu.
