Kurzweil 3000 Version 12 |  Kurzweil 3000 |  Kurzweil 1000

Kurzweil 3000 Clients are unable to Connect to Kurzweil 3000 Server

This article applies to:

  • Kurzweil 3000 Network Edition for Windows, version 7.0 and later

Symptoms

When launching a Kurzweil 3000 Network Edition for Windows client, the program will search for the Kurzweil 3000 Server and then display the message “The Kurzweil 3000 Server is not available at this time. Please try again in few minutes.”

Cause

Kurzweil 3000 Server may have been installed on a system which has Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed.  By default, Windows XP Service Pack 2 enables a software firewall which blocks the port used by Kurzweil 3000 Server.

Solution

One solution is to enable a port on the Kurzweil 3000 Server system, so that the Kurzweil 3000 Client systems can find the Kurzweil 3000 Server.

On the system which has the Kurzweil 3000 Server installed, open the Control Panel, choose the Security Center, then Managing Security Setting for: “Windows Firewall”. Now select the “Exceptions” tab and select “Add Port…” button, and then enter Name: i.e. “Kurzweil 3000 Server” and the Port Number: “1006” then select “OK”. Now close the Security Center Window.

Another solution is to turn off the Firewall on the system on which Kurzweil 3000 Server is installed, but that may expose your system to intruders.
