DECTalk Express Gives a "Command Error in Parameter" Error
This article applies to:
Symptoms
Kurzweil 1000 speaks using the DECTalk Express, but occasionally
DECTalk Express says "Command error in parameter" and stops speaking.
Cause
Characters being sent between the PC and the DECTalk Express are
being lost.
Solution
The DECTalk Express is connected to a serial COM port. COM ports
have an option to enable or disable the FIFO buffer. The FIFO buffer
should be disabled.
To disable the FIFO buffer, display the Windows Control Panel.
Select System.
On Windows 95, 98, and ME, choose the Device Manager tab. On Windows
2000 and XP, choose the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager
button.
Regardless of which operating system you have, you should now see a
tree view of hardware device types. One of the types is Ports (COM
& LPT). Expand that device type and select the Communications Port
that the DECTalk Express is connected to. Display the port's properties
by typing the Enter key.
In the Properties dialog, select the Port Settings tab, then click
the Advanced button. Uncheck the "Use FIFO Buffers" option and click
the OK button. Click OK again on the Properties dialog and close the
Control Panel window.
Reboot your computer and run the Kurzweil 1000 again. It should
speak through the DECTalk Express without errors.
