We were chatting in the kitchen, where all important conversations happen and telling each other about great books we have read. Why not share it with you, too? This book is one is one of my favorites. And not just mine. My whole family has read it, my husband and two teenage kids.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.

The book is written from the perspective of a 15 year old boy, Christopher. Though his condition is not clearly stated, it is likely Asperger syndrome or high functioning autism. Christopher knows all the countries in the world and their capitals, and every prime number up to 7,057. A good day is determined by the color and number of cars he sees in a row on the way to school. He cannot understand emotions, cannot be touched, and detests the color yellow.

As a psychology major I have always found "getting into people’s head" fascinating. Haddon had me hooked from the start.

The book is not only filled with amazing descriptions but is filled with humor and puzzles. A very unusual combination that is sure to captivate you from the start. As Haddon says, it’s a novel about difference, about being an outsider, about seeing the world in a surprising and revealing way.

He writes, "My memory is like a film. That is why I am really good at remembering things, like the conversations I have written down in this book and what people were wearing, and what they smelled like, because my memory has smell track which is like a soundtrack.

"And when people ask me to remember something I can simple press Rewind and Fast Forward and Pause like on a video recorder, but more like a DVD player because I don’t have to Rewind through everything in between to get to a memory of something a long time ago. And there are no buttons, either, because it is happening in my head."
