Returning to the classroom after the holidays may seem like a whirlwind. With only a few months remaining in the school
year there is still much to accomplish. Are you excited for the upcoming months, or are you wishing you had extra time
to plan? Take a deep breath and remember to start small. Here are 4 tips that will help you and your students east into the new year: |

1. Save more than eBooks in the Cloud Library
While firefly’s cloud library is most often used to share eBooks, uploading any files pertaining to the class helps to keep students organized. Not being able to locate your assignments or syllabus because they’re buried in a stack of papers is no longer an issue!
2. Set Helpful Reminders with Bookmarks
Using Kurzweil 3000 to review assignments or a Syllabus allows students to bookmark the dates assignments are due. A
student can also bookmark where they stopped reading for the day making it easy to begin again at a later time.
Pro Tip: Store textbook chapters by assignment and due date in the firefly cloud library for classes that will not go sequentially through the textbook.
3. Facilitate Pre-Reading Techniques
One of the first steps for reviewing and organizing text is to review chapter headings and subheadings. This can be accomplished by highlighting titles and subtitles. Students can take it a step further by extracting the highlighted text and place it into column notes for easy reference. Lecture notes and comments can also be added.
4. Encourage Students to Add Comments
Using Bubble Notes or Voice Notes features, students can add comments or ask themselves questions about the content of the text they are reading. These comments can be used to reinforce concepts introduced in class, or show how engaged a student is with the text.
