What is the one thing that you’ve been asking for the most for the Kurzweil 3000 web application ? That's right, you can now edit — and write — online. The new Web Editor allows you to edit .doc, .docx, and text-based KES files and create new documents from scratch.
Log in to www.fireflybykurzweil.com to try it out now, then follow along this blog to learn the ins and outs of this new feature.
First Things First: Save the Draft File to the Universal LibraryThe first step in creating a new draft is determining where you want your final file saved. You'll be able to see the "New Draft" button before you do this step, but it will be grayed out. Have you ever worked on a document, saved it, then couldn’t remember where it was saved? I think we can all agree that "looking for a document you just worked on" can officially be filed in the "not fun" category.STEP 1: Navigate to the folder in the Universal Library where you'd like your file to be saved. Then click on the "New Draft" button, and enter the name of your file and click "Create." A message box will automatically open, confirming that your draft was created. |

STEP 2: Open the file you just added to your Universal Library by double-clicking on it. Then put your cursor in the big white area and start writing. You can format your font to whatever suits your style; make it larger, bold, italic or underlined.

Highlight text to call attention to certain parts of the text or to help organize your notes. |

Double-check the words you write—or find new ones—with dictionary and translation features. |

Update the text-to-speech settings to have your writing read aloud to you to make sure it sounds just right. |
You can also align your text (or not) and both undo and re-do what you wrote (as many times as you'd like).
STEP 3: Save. Feel free to click on the save button
as often as you can throughout.
Now that you’re done, click on the menu icon
to go back to your library or the account page.

For instances where you've already started a document or want to upload an assignment or worksheet,
simply upload the file to the Universal Library by clicking on the orange "Upload" button.
(Bonus if a file is already saved in the library). You can upload files saved as .doc, .docx, .rtf, and .kes. While you can upload .txt files, you'll find that not all features are available. That's why we recommend uploading word documents. Once the file is in your Universal Library, open it up and start editing as your normally would. |
Files that are locked, such as PDFs, or image-based, including scanned files and files added using Virtual Print, cannot be edited. They can be uploaded as they’ve been able to. For these files, use the notes features. You can add text and sticky notes wherever you need them on image-based files.
