Kurzweil 3000 for Windows Version 10 Patch 10.04

A patch for Kurzweil 3000 for Windows Version 10 is now available (Patch 10.04).

NOTE: This patch is intended for Kurzweil 3000 Versions 10.00, 10.01, 10.02, or 10.03. After it is installed, the Kurzweil 3000 Version number will change to 10.04.

Important Note for Windows Vista Users:

Due to changes in Windows Vista's security model, this patch will not automatically install after you download it from within Kurzweil 3000. Therefore, users with Windows Vista will have to use the Manual Download Instructions as indicated below and manually launch the patch executable. Future patches will be able to automatically install after you have installed this patch with Online Update.

Online Update Instructions:

If you have Internet access, you can retrieve and install this update using the Online Update mechanism in Kurzweil 3000. Just do the following:

1. From within Kurzweil 3000 Version 10, select the Updates... menu item from the Online menu on the main menu bar. If it is grayed out, you may need to log in with higher privileges (e.g. as an Administrator).
2. The Online status dialog will indicate that a search is in progress. When it completes, you should select "Kurzweil 3000 10.04" for download and then "OK".
3. When the download completes, you will see a message indicating that the update has been successfully downloaded and that you should exit from Kurzweil 3000 to install it.

When you exit from Kurzweil 3000, the update will automatically be installed. The next time you run Kurzweil 3000, the version number will be 10.03. (You can check the version number by going to Help on the main menu bar and selecting About Kurzweil 3000).

Manual Download Instructions:

If you have more than one computer running Kurzweil 3000, and if it is more convenient for you to download the update on only one computer, you can copy the update executable to your other machines and manually run that program. After you have downloaded and installed the update, you can find its executable in the "Patches\Completed Patches" folder under your Kurzweil 3000 folder in the Program Files folder. The name of the executable is k3000patch10.04.exe. Alternately, you can use this link to download it -

1. Make sure that Version 10 of Kurzweil 3000 is installed, by checking Help-About Kurzweil 3000... to see which version you have installed.
2. You may need to log into your computer as Administrator or otherwise assure that you have sufficient permission to update the program files.
3. Make sure that neither Kurzweil 3000 nor Kurzweil 1000 are running.
4. Create an empty folder named "Patches" (if it does not already exist) under the folder Program Files\Kurzweil Educational Systems\Kurzweil 3000\.
5. Download the k3000patch10.04.exe file and place it into that folder.
6. Run the k3000patch10.04.exe file.

Changes introduced by Patch 10.04

1. Support for Windows Vista.
2. Support for Word 2007's ".docx" format if Word 2007 installed.
3. Fixed issue with Edit Underlying Text not working in Windows Vista.
4. Fixed issue where reading did not always stop at all empty text notes on a page, even when the "stop reading at empty notes" option was enabled.
5. Fixed issue with Baen Free Library's online downloads due to site redesign.
6. Fixed issue of inability to extract only orange, gray, red circle, or blue circle highlights.
7. Fixed issue with potential freeze when using "Replace All" in the "Replace" function in image documents.

Changes introduced by Patch 10.03

1. Fixed issue when using Virtual Printer with Microsoft Word documents that contain pages in both portrait and landscape orientation in the same file.
2. Fixed issue with disappearing toolbar controls after customizing toolbars.
3. Update for KESIReader.xpi Firefox extension to support Read the Web with Firefox 2.0.
4. Added support for eContent files purchased from the online Web Store (available April 2007).

Changes introduced by Patch 10.02

1. Fixed issue with Encyclopedia Britannica Online due to changes on their web site.
2. Fixed issue with long audio files that were sometimes truncated when pronunciation edits were active.
3. Read-the-web Desktop Toolbar can be enabled when using Firefox. See Tools->Options Reading pane.
4. Fixed issue with Page Down and Page Up keys not working in Zone Editor or Header/Footer Editor.
5. Changed Help file reference specifying 300MHz for minimum system specs when it should be 500MHz.
6. Fixed issue when downloading books containing PNG images.
7. Support for Microtek ArtixScan DI 2020 scanner.

Changes introduced by Patch 10.01 into Kurzweil

1. Fixed issue with getting a very long delay that sometimes occurs when opening large text files.
2. Fixed issue when words are sometimes incorrectly marked as misspelled when using word prediction.
3. Fixed issue when OCR correction strings with only punctuation characters could cause unpredictable results.
4. Fixed issue with Extracted Text document that was not saved resulting in “Check spelling as you type” feature not working.
5. Added support for HP 4800, 7800, 8270, and 8300 scanners.
6. Fixed issue with Text and sticky notes being positioned improperly when printing a color image document with "Force B&W."
7. Fixed issue with garbled output occurring when Printing color image document set to "fit to page."
8. Fixed issue with the Help Index not working properly.
9. Update for changes to Bookshare.org Web site.
