Kurzweil 3000™, supports the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) concept as a powerful reading, writing, test-taking, and learning tool for all students. It is particularly appropriate for students with learning disabilities, including those who are still learning to read after third grade, those who have learned to read, but are struggle with reading comprehension, and English Language Learners (ELL).

Based on research, Kurweil 3000™ is more than a text reader. The software uses a multisensory approach — presenting print or electronic text on the computer screen with added visual and auditory representations. It then allows students to interact with that text and takes them through the text from vocabulary development, to comprehension, to study skills and directly into the writing process.
